I spent eighteen years as a strength coach for college athletes, mostly sprinters and rowers, before I realized the people I really wanted to train were their grandparents. The work is the same at heart. You find what someone can do today, add a little, and repeat it until it sticks.
These days I work with adults in their seventies and eighties who want to climb stairs without the rail, carry groceries in from the car, or get off the couch in one smooth move. We use a sturdy chair, a couple of resistance bands, and your own body weight. I write every exercise on an index card so you can do the short version between visits.
I live a few blocks from the South Orange train station and walk the loop at Meadowland Park most mornings with my wife and our old beagle, Rufus. I am patient, I talk you through every rep, and I will never ask you to get down on the floor unless you want to.
