About me

I coached track and taught gym at a high school in Belleville for eighteen years. When my own father needed help getting stronger after a long winter on the couch, I realized how few trainers really knew how to work with older adults. I got certified for it and have done this full time since.

The goal in my sessions is everyday strength. Standing up from a low couch without a push, carrying the groceries in, getting down to the floor and back up. We use bands, a chair and your own body weight, and I keep track of your numbers so you can see the progress on paper. Nothing fancy, nothing that hurts.

I live in Glen Ridge with my wife and two boys, and I still run the loop at Brookdale Park three mornings a week, a little slower than I used to. On Sundays I help out with the youth soccer league, mostly by carrying the cones.

What a first visit looks like

  1. 1

    Minute 0 to 10

Talk about your daily routine and what feels harder than it used to.

  2. 2

    Minute 10 to 20

Run a few simple tests, like sit to stand and a short walk, to get a baseline.

  3. 3

    Minute 20 to 50

Learn five core moves with a band and a chair, going at your pace.

  4. 4

    Minute 50 to 60

Write down your starter routine with sets and reps on one page.

  5. 5

    Minute 60 to 65
