About me

I worked in pharmaceutical marketing in Parsippany for twelve years before I admitted that my favorite part of every week was Sunday card night with my in-laws. My father-in-law taught me Indian rummy, I taught him Texas Hold'em with pennies, and that trade is basically my whole business now.

I teach card games to older adults around Glen Ridge and Bloomfield, and because I am also a certified personal trainer, every session includes short movement breaks. After a hand or two we stand, or stay seated, for a few minutes of stretches and arm work. It keeps the body moving and the mind fresh for the next round. The games I teach most often are gin rummy, Indian rummy, poker basics, and Spit for anyone who likes speed.

I have two kids at Linden Avenue School and a garden full of mint I cannot get rid of. Most Saturdays we are at Brookdale Park, and I am the one walking laps while everyone else plays soccer.

What a first visit looks like

  1. 1

    Minute 0 to 5

Quick warmup for the hands and wrists, and a chat about the games you already know.

  2. 2

    Minute 5 to 25

Learn a new game, like gin rummy, with open hands and a printed rules card.

  3. 3

    Minute 25 to 35

Movement break: seated or standing arm raises, marches and gentle twists.

  4. 4

    Minute 35 to 55

Play a few real hands, with a second short stretch between deals.

  5. 5

    Minute 55 to 60

Tally the pennies and pick a game to learn next visit.
