About me

I graduated from Montclair State with a music degree in 2022 and have taught guitar and ukulele ever since. Some of my favorite students are in their seventies and eighties. They tend to practice more than teenagers, and they know all the songs I grew up hearing on my grandfather's records.

My lessons are built around songs, not drills. We pick something you love, maybe the Everly Brothers, Simon and Garfunkel or a Beatles tune, and I simplify the chords so you can play along within a few weeks. If steel strings are hard on your fingers, ukulele is a great place to start, and I bring a spare one so you can try both.

I grew up in Millburn and still live a short walk from the Paper Mill Playhouse, where I see nearly every musical. On weekends I play in a wedding band, which means I know a lot of songs and can usually figure out the one you hum for me.

What a first visit looks like

  1. 1

    Minute 0 to 10

Tune up together and talk about the songs and artists you want to learn to play.

  2. 2

    Minute 10 to 25

Learn how to hold the guitar or ukulele, and your first two easy chords.

  3. 3

    Minute 25 to 45

Put those chords into a real song, strumming slowly while I play and sing along.

  4. 4

    Minute 45 to 60

Write out a simple chord chart and a five-minute daily practice routine.
