I studied exercise science at Rowan University and pitched for the baseball team until my shoulder voted for retirement. After graduating in 2019, I spent four years as a trainer at a gym in Bloomfield, where my most loyal clients were a group of retirees who showed up every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 a.m.
Those same clients taught me euchre between sets, and I taught them how to bluff at poker. That is pretty much what my visits look like now. We start with a card game at the table, usually euchre, poker or blackjack, then take strength breaks built around everyday tasks, like getting up from the couch, carrying a laundry basket, or reaching the top shelf. I write a plan you can follow on your own between visits.
I live in Glen Ridge, a few minutes from Brookdale Park, where I still throw a ball around in a men's softball league. My grandmother lives in Belleville, and she remains the best poker player I have ever lost to.
