About me

I grew up in Fort Lee playing mahjong with my grandmother and her sisters, loud and fast, with the tiles clacking so hard the neighbors knocked on the wall. Bridge came later, in college, when a professor needed a fourth on Friday nights. I now play duplicate twice a month and hold a bronze life master rank, which mostly means I have made every mistake at least once.

With bridge I start with the hand in front of you, not a rule book. We count points, bid, and play it out, and I explain why after each trick. For mahjong I teach either the Chinese style I grew up with or the American card, whichever your group prefers. Mahjong needs four players and a table set up before I arrive. Bridge works with four too, though I can fill a seat.

During the day I work as an accountant, so my visits are evenings and Saturdays. I live in Millburn near the Paper Mill Playhouse with my husband and two kids who are finally learning too.

Deal a practice hand face up and count points together.

  3. 3

    Minute 25 to 55

Play three or four hands with me talking through the bidding and the play.

  4. 4
