I spent thirty four years as a civil engineer with the state, and bridge was what kept my brain from turning into a spreadsheet. My late wife and I played rubber bridge every Friday with the same couple for twenty years, and I still play at the club in Morristown, where I live now.
A lot of people learned bridge decades ago and stopped. The rules come back faster than you think. I start where you are. If you remember the basics, we play and I fill in the gaps. If you are brand new, we play open hands until counting points feels easy. Four players is best and I am happy to be the fourth.
I travel farther than most, so I come down to the Essex County towns from Morristown. Families 20 miles or more away see a small travel fee on the booking. I am patient, a little old fashioned, and I bring good coffee in a thermos.
