About me
Canasta was the game at my aunt's house in Newark every Sunday after church. The adults played in the dining room and the kids kept score and snuck cookies. I was keeping score at eight and playing by twelve, and I have never stopped.
These days I run the Thursday card table at my church in Bloomfield and teach canasta and beginner mahjong to anyone who asks. Both need four players. You gather the people and set up the table, and I bring the decks, a tile set, racks, score pads, and a lot of patience. I like to get everyone playing in the first half hour, even if we keep our cards face up for a while.
I work part time at a dental office in Montclair, so I have open mornings and weekends. People tell me the visits are loud in the best way. Expect laughing, a little friendly trash talk, and a table that wants to play again next week.
