About me

My father kept a vegetable garden in Newark's Ironbound that fed the whole block, and I was pulling weeds there before I could read. I ran a landscaping crew for twenty years, mostly big estates in Somerset County, and I loved the plants more than the mowing.

Now I teach. We work in whatever you have: a bed by the back door, a few pots on the patio, or a window box. I show you how to plant, prune and water so it actually grows, and I set things up so you can sit or kneel on a pad if bending is hard. We start seeds in the spring, tomatoes and herbs in summer, bulbs in the fall.

I live in Far Hills with my wife, our two kids and too many tomato plants. I travel farther than most, so homes 20 miles or more from Far Hills add a small travel fee. I bring my own tools and a bag of good soil to the first visit.

What a first visit looks like

  1. 1

    Minute 0 to 10

Walk the yard or patio and talk about what you want to grow.

  2. 2

    Minute 10 to 20

Check the sun, the soil and the water.

  3. 3

    Minute 20 to 50

Plant or prune together, at a pace that suits you.

  4. 4

    Minute 50 to 60

Make a simple watering plan and pick next week's job.
