I came to yoga late, at 38, after years of sitting at a desk as a paralegal in Newark. My back was a mess. A Saturday class at a small studio in Livingston changed how I felt in about six weeks, and by 2012 I had finished my teacher training and left the law office for good.
Most of what I teach now happens in a chair. We stretch through the spine, open the shoulders, and work on standing up and sitting down with good form. I talk you through every breath and I never ask anyone to get down on the floor. If something pinches, we swap it out. Afterward, if there is time and interest, I am happy to play a hand or two of rummy or canasta. I have taught both to my yoga students for years.
I live a few blocks from Riker Hill Art Park and walk my neighbor's beagle there most afternoons.

We talk about how your body feels day to day and any movements you already know to skip.

Seated breathing to settle in, then gentle neck, wrist and ankle movements.
Minute 20 to 50
A slow chair sequence: seated cat cow, side stretches, twists and supported standing poses.
Minute 50 to 55
A quiet rest with your eyes closed while I talk you through a short relaxation.
Minute 55 to 60
I leave you a printed page with three poses to practice before next week.
